Dymaxion Corporation
Dymaxion Corporation, formed by Fuller on 4 March 1933 — the day President Roosevelt instituted the banking moratorium — to build the Dymaxion car in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Fuller set up the workshop in the former dynamometer building of the defunct Locomobile Company at Tongue Point, on the west side of Bridgeport harbour. He hired the naval architect Starling Burgess, and Isamu Noguchi also contributed to the design. The vehicle was also called 4D Transport.
Three prototypes were built in 1933. Fuller used his inheritance to finish the second and third, sold all three, then dissolved the corporation — reiterating that the Dymaxion had never been intended as a commercial venture.
Role in Fuller's world
The Dymaxion Corporation is Fuller's clearest demonstration that his ventures were experiments rather than businesses. It existed to prove a transport principle and was wound up the moment the prototypes had made their argument, setting the pattern for how he treated the artifacts that followed.
